The pursuit of happiness and the right to be nude
Blog by: Logan Green (The Oregon Trail Nudist Blog)
It has dawned on me that within the declaration of independence it states that we are all created equally and with certain unalienable rights among which is the right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. To what degree do we take this statement? In San Francisco they passed a law that prohibits nudity in public except during specific celebrations, does this infringe on our rights?
To put the answer simply, yes; however it is much more complicated than that. I heard it often said that people should wear clothes because it would infringe on their rights to not see someone’s genitals, or someone’s rear, etc. If we could take that statement a step further, my right to clean air is constantly infringed upon from smoking, overuse of gasoline, etc. Should we then make those illegal because they infringe on my rights? The problem with this argument is that people will then use, “Majority of people are okay or at least tolerate smoking, overuse of gasoline, etc.” It is a very unfortunate argument for the main reason individualism disappears and each person is only seen as important as the amount of people that support him or her. This deeply saddens me.
What should be done about it? If It doesn’t create harm physically or emotionally to themselves or others, why should it be wrong? Nudism does not create physical nor emotional harm as some people would like to believe, it in fact does the exact opposite, nudism benefits everyone both emotionally, physically and can affect people spiritually too. Some individuals are naked because they feel closer to their deity, should we prevent them from being close to their deity? I do not believe so.
We should have the right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and it should be unalienable just as we are all created equal. I thereby believe that nudism whether done in private or public should be allowed. I do believe clothes have their purpose such as, cooking (especially greasy things), fire-related when it can burn us or catch us on fire (such as skin and body hair) and overall other safety purposes. Another common rule should be followed is sitting on a towel when nude for hygienic purposes. We are nudists, naturists, nudies, etc and we do have standards and I hope in the future we will not be treated differently and our way of life will be at the very least tolerated and seen as non-sexual.

Great blog. When I think about rights, tolerance, etc. I lament the fact that we do not have even basic rights to enjoy nature in parks and other natural settings, and to do it naked. Society "tolerates" the exploitation of women's bodies through pornography in many publicly accessible locations, but it will not respect simple innocent nudity even in secluded natural settings, where few if any textiles ever see it.
Very true. Which is why it is so important to stand up for our rights whether as for nudism or non-nudist laws and regulations otherwise they will disappear without us even realizing what we lost
Our individual rights are challenged every day. I think Nudists and non-nudists can agree with this everywhere.
Good blog, I couldn't agree more. No real and identifiable victim, no offense and no crime. Being offended by someone's action which have no real impact does not count.
I totally agree with you. I rather be accepted, unfortunately change is progressive, hence my statement of "at the very least." Ideally everyone would be accepting of everyone, despite our differences. It isn't until we are more united will we begin to be listened to enough and hopefully move towards acceptance.
All the more reasons to invite your friends and family into the nudist lifestyle! The more people, the more it spreads and the increased likelihood of acceptance! I challenge you this next month to tell someone about nudism and your lifestyle and invite them to an event :)
I hope to start looking for possible event opportunities soon after the new year.
@YNAOregon Logan :) Challenge Accepted!!!! - 'cos I'm the "poster child" of naturism drum-bangin'!!! :)
