Nudist Gathering Event Recap: the YNA Gathering at Juniper Woods!
Nudist Gathering - This past weekend YNA hopped into cars and trains to make their way up to “the Woods”! Otherwise known as Juniper Woods Nudist Park in Catskill, NY. About 50 people came to our first nudist gathering / event in upstate New York! Although Friday pelted us with the first big summer thunderstorms, the weather was warm and sunny almost all weekend.
On Friday evening we enjoyed the pool, water volleyball and hot tub. When nightfall struck we gathered round a blazing campfire and picked up some percussion to strike a beat with Joel, our drum circle leader, and danced around the fire.
On Saturday more people came with old friends and many new faces. After cooking up some breakfast everyone took to their own preferred activity of either hiking, swimming, games or just enjoying the sun.
Energy rose in the afternoon as we followed Melissa to a slip-n-slide set up on a hill! I don’t think I’ve sent myself down a slip-n-slide since I was a 6 years old kid. It was awesome! It really brought out a childlike glee, laughter and maybe a little grass burn (we know to make it longer next time, so people fly into the trees instead).
Not long after some heavy wind and rain came in suddenly. What do we do when that happens? Move to the dry pavilion and dance the meringue! Ramiro led the group in a latin dance workshop where we shook our hips and moved our feet to the music while the rain came down next to us.
With the return of the sun came the naked body painting. This guy lost his clothes:
After dinner Shaquoya led a body image workshop in which we discussed why both men and women have problems with poor body image and what influences people’s impressions of themselves. What I took away from this is that positive body image and self-esteem must come from within. Many people have been told since childhood how their body is supposed to look, but nobody has to keep repeating it!
At night we played outdoor movies by the campfire and mellowed out with roasted marshmallows and s’mores.
Sunday began with a pancake breakfast and then free time to swim, lounge by the pool or play badminton and other games. Many people tuned in to the lively jam session by the pool with Michelle and Seth, leaders of the new Vita Nuda Mid-Atlantic group.
That afternoon was departure time. We said goodbye to a lot of new friends, a number of whom had their very first social nudism experience with us at Juniper Woods! I think it’s safe to say it was a very positive one. Thank you everyone who came, we loved meeting all of you! A big special thanks to Juniper Woods and also to all who volunteered or jumped in to help make it such a great weekend!
For anyone who missed it or who is ready for the next one, don’t fret: the YNA Gathering at Rock Lodge is getting closer! We plan to open the registration later this week!

I cannot wait to check out Juniper Woods. Hopefully the YNA will return there in 2013. If not hopefully I can make their clam bake this year.
Had a lot of fun and met some great people. Thanks for organizing this, YNA! Looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
This was a FABULOUS event- I loved every single minute of it! It was great to have an event at beautiful Juniper Woods with our amazing people sharing the love throughout the camp!
